The
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati Medical
Center, is the only blood center for the greater
Cincinnati area. Founded in 1938 and serving a 15-county
area in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, Hoxworth collects,
tests, processes, and distributes blood and blood
components to 25 hospitals. With an infrastructure
of 26 departments, more than 300 employees staff
Hoxworth's seven neighborhood donor centers, the
Hoxworth Blood Center distributes more than 200,000
blood components annually. Hoxworth relies on over 300
donors daily to meet the needs of tri-state patients.
Hoxworth's purpose is to assure a reliable and
economical supply of the safest possible blood. Hoxworth
is licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) and is accredited by the American
Association of Blood Banks. Hoxworth is also a member of
America's Blood Centers.
Before
installing Franek Technologies’ certified power
protection solutions, Hoxworth had experienced multiple
power outages, resulting in lost collections, testing
data, and lost productive time. Hoxworth estimates
that each outage costs the blood center $10,000-$20,000.
Hoxworth selected Franek Technologies to safeguard its
nearly $1.5 million investment in blood collection and
immunology-HLA laboratory analysis equipment. Having
experienced a number of costly power interruptions in
the past, the blood center sought to institute
higher-level protection consistent with national
bioterrorism preparedness standards. With Franek
Technologies’ instrumentation-specific power
protection solutions, Hoxworth is now able to protect
every sample collected and ensure that blood collections
in progress will continue, even should a complete power
loss occur.

Dual Gambro.BCT Trima®
Model Number IT00397 Automated Blood Collection
System
Dual Franek Technologies “FDA Approved Patient
Contact” LPS Catalog Number FT1-IT00397-GT
Instrument Description: Trima is a transportable,
automated blood collection system that separates
whole blood into its major components — red
blood cells (RBC), platelets, and plasma. The
Trima system's flexibility allows collection of
one or all of these components — leukoreduced
— in any combination, on a single platform, in a
single procedure, from a single donor. Regardless
of the collection protocol, Trima returns unneeded
components to the donor, enabling more frequent
donation.
Application: Apheresis, Blood Collection, Blood
Banking and integrated leukocyte separation
