The
complex science of biotechnology is rapidly becoming one
of the most significant growth industries in our nation.
The focus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV)
Biotechnology Center is to provide the educational
opportunities that are necessary to train individuals
interested in pursing careers in the advancing fields of
biotechnology and forensics.
Additionally, UNLV programs and curricula
encourage new community-based business/industry
collaboration and corroboration to stimulate global
economic growth.
Based
on the recommendations of Applied Biosystems and the Las
Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and verified by
the electrical engineering specialists contracted to
design the center, the UNLV Biotechnology Center
installed five (5) Franek Technologies' power protection
systems to protect the center's genetic analysis and DNA
amplification instrumentation.
Since UNLV Biotechnology Center's success relies
upon providing hands-on training and excellent
instruction, it is imperative that the instrumentation
used in the training remains viable at all times.
With the power protection provided by Franek
Technologies, the center has avoided the risk of losing
expensive instrumentation or valuable time due to
substandard power.

Instrument Description:
The Applied Biosystems Prism® 7000
Sequence Detection System is a complete, real-time
PCR (polymerase chain reaction) system that
detects and quantitates nucleic acid sequences
(DNA/RNA). In
real-time PCR, cycle-by-cycle detection of
accumulated PCR amplification product is made
possible by combining thermal cycling,
fluorescence detection, and application-specific
software in a single instrument.
Quantitative results are available
immediately after PCR without additional
purification or analysis.
